STARTERS
Deron Williams, G 7-8 FG | 5-6 3PT | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 5 AST | 19 PTS I told you the shots would fall eventually. A lineup change thrust Williams into the starting lineup, and though he waited until the third quarter to really get going, he was excellent. There should be no question that he can run this team. |
Kobe Bryant, G 1-3 FG | 0-1 3PT | 3-4 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 5 PTS Not your normal Kobe game — but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He didn't shoot quite as much, which is probably wise considering the talent around him. He can always flip the switch when he needs to, but he played nicely within the flow today. |
Kevin Durant, F 5-12 FG | 1-5 3PT | 2-3 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 13 PTS This was not KD's most efficient outing. (However, when 5-for-12 is an off-game, you're doing pretty well for yourself.) For the second straight game, it just never felt like he quite settled into a groove on offense. He's due for a monster effort soon. |
LeBron James, F 7-10 FG | 0-0 3PT | 2-2 FT | 6 REB | 4 AST | 16 PTS LeBron James is ridiculous. We know this by now. He went for 16-6-4 on 70 percent shooting in Manchester, and it didn't even seem like he had to try all that hard. And that actually might be the craziest part of it all — maybe he didn't. |
Tyson Chandler, C 0-1 FG | 0-0 3PT | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 PTS Chandler stayed out of foul trouble this time around, but mostly because it's pretty hard to foul from the bench. He didn't do much in his 10 minutes, but the pace of this game wasn't really suited to him anyway. Tyson is here for Spain and Brazil. |
BENCH
Carmelo Anthony, F 8-10 FG | 3-5 3PT | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 4 AST | 19 PTS When Melo gets rolling offensively, it's probably best to get out of the way. He went on a tear in the second quarter — and while one could argue he needs to bring that more consistently, it was still fun to watch. The man can score. |
Chris Paul, G 1-3 FG | 0-0 3PT | 1-2 FT | 1 REB | 6 AST | 3 PTS I'm not sure what's up with CP3. He looks somewhat uncomfortable on the court, which is something I never thought I would write about Chris Paul. Granted, he did dish out 6 assists (which he does in his sleep), but he still doesn't look like himself. |
Russell Westbrook, G 5-9 FG | 1-3 3PT | 4-4 FT | 3 REB | 9 AST | 15 PTS This is exactly why Krzyzewski loves Westbrook. He was a demon on defense and virtually unstoppable in the open court. He even dished out a team-high 9 assists. If Coach K is committed to this pressure-heavy, up-tempo style, Russ is his guy. |
Andre Iguodala, F 1-4 FG | 0-1 3PT | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 2 PTS Iguodala continues his regression toward the mean! His offensive explosion against the Dominicans was a mirage — and that's OK. Team USA has enough scorers. Iggy is the glue guy, and he filled that role perfectly adequately today. |
Kevin Love, F 3-4 FG | 0-0 3PT | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 6 PTS It was nice to see Love pick up some more time in this one, and he used it more effectively than past games. Rather than jacking threes, he went inside and mucked it up. It might not be glamorous, but this team needs him to wear that hardhat. |
James Harden, G 4-7 FG | 1-3 3PT | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 3 AST | 9 PTS Harden continues to struggle hitting perimeter looks, but he did enough other good things here to compensate. Though he's often relegated to a spot-up shooter role on this team, it's important we remember how effective he is with the ball in his hands. |
Anthony Davis, C 5-7 FG | 0-0 3PT | 1-3 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 11 PTS I'm all in on The Brow. Not that I wasn't before, but I'm guzzling the Kool-Aid now. After racking up 11 points and 4 blocks in just 13 minutes, the kid looks like he belongs out there — and considering he's never played an NBA game, that's scary. |
